The Cultural and Folkloric Association Moncovil was born in 1996 in Villafranca de los Barros, taking its name from the first name we know of in the city of Villafranca, which means Mount of caves and silos.
The Association was founded by a group of enthusiasts of Extremaduran Folklore who were descendants, musically speaking, of Father Emilio Blas de la Rosa and the group that he himself created some years before “BRUYAS DE ALBAYADA”. Among Moncovil’s objectives are the research, promotion and dissemination of the extensive folklore of Extremadura.
Throughout their more than twenty-five years of existence they have given more than 400 performances all over Spain as well as in other countries such as Portugal, Italy, France and Poland.
They have also recorded two CDs of Extremaduran folklore, “VAMOS DE FIESTA” and “AÑORANZA” and have a repertoire of more than 80 songs, jotas, fandangos and rondeñas from the high and low Extremadura.
También llevan A GALA en su repertorio la MISA DEL PUEBLO EXTREMEÑO, herencia singular del Padre jesuita Emilio Blas de la Rosa así como muestras de villancicos extremeños. Igualmente desarrollan, de cara al futuro, ESCUELAS INFANTILES DE FOLKLORE, con niños y niñas de todas las edades.
Consecuencia de esta dedicación al folklore de Moncovil son diversos reconocimientos que han ido recibiendo a lo largo de estos años, entre los cuales destaca la concesión de la Medalla de la Ciudad de Villafranca de los Barros que recientemente han recibido.
