Asociación de Coros y Danzas Santísima Cruz de Abanilla was founded in 1940 under the auspices of the Women’s Section, with the aim of reviving the folklore of our municipality and neighbouring areas. It has a strong tradition and heritage in the promotion of music, dances and folk songs, which are unique and highly distinctive, reflecting the different villages and districts that make up the municipality of Abanilla, as well as the influence of neighbouring regions: Valencia, La Mancha and Andalusia. It has a distinctive style, both in the performance of its dances – jotas, seguidillas, malagueñas – and in its folk songs.
The group’s repertoire consists mainly of the dances and musical traditions of the municipality. It offers a rich variety because Abanilla is a borderland, halfway between the regions of Valencia, La Mancha and Andalusia, and our own region. Passing down our dances, costumes and folk songs from generation to generation, the group has skilfully blended them to create a unique and unmistakable performance that evokes memories of how those who came before us lived and enjoyed life, with their distinctive Abanilla character.
