María José Ruiz Morales, cantaora of the purest flamenco art, best known in the world for the history of the art of flamenco singing under the artistic name of MARÍA JOSÉ CARRASCO, was born and raised in Los Palacios and Villafranca (Seville) on 13 May 1974. She was trained as a cantaora, in the heart of a family fond of flamenco and with good skills for flamenco singing. Her artistic name comes from the nickname of her husband, Carrasco.

Since she was a little girl she has been doing her pinitos, singing in family, meetings… but it was not until 1994 that she got to know herself, participating in her first television programme, which was presented by Marife de Triana and Naranjo, and in her first Flamenco Festival sharing the bill with Bambino.

Since then and up to the present time, there have been several years of intense professional career, visiting the most important flamenco clubs in the cantaora geography and the best theatres: participation in the Bienal de Sevilla in Pepa Montes’ show, Cuatro Bailes de Movimientos Flamencos, in the Lope de Vega de Sevilla, in the Palacio Regional de Murcia,… and all this sharing the stage with the best artists of the moment (José Mercé, Chano Lobato, El Pele, Pepe de Lucía, Arcángel, Paquera de Jerez, Curro Malena,…)…).
