Voces y Cuerdas Medio Siglo Después is a musical group from Extremadura, from Villafranca de los Barros, made up of around 30 members, including voices and instruments. The group started at the end of 2009, led by D. Rafael Fernández de Soria (†), and arose from the idea of a reunion of a group of friends who had belonged, back in the 60’s, to a Tuna in their town, hence the origin of the group’s name. They have a wide range of traditional string, wind and percussion instruments, and a choir of tenor, baritone and bass voices. Their repertoire is very varied, entertaining and attractive, with songs arranged and adapted by the group itself, performing habaneras, waltzes, popular, latin, tangos, pasodobles, canarian airs, boleros, folklore and a wide range of national and international pop music by famous groups and artists.

The successive incorporations of new musicians and singers of all ages have consolidated this group as a quality musical project, extending its performances inside and outside the region, enlivening in numerous cities and towns their festivities, evenings, verbenas, and participating in galas and awards ceremonies, contests, television programmes or famous music festivals, such as the concerts performed in the organisation of the O. N.C.E. of Seville, Casa de Extremadura in Seville, repeated appearances on Canal Extremadura TV, Premios Grada in the Palacio de Congresos de Badajoz, etc… and it should be pointed out that the group has fixed several dates each year in its calendar of performances to entertain the traditional festivities of Villafranca, especially the traditional “Velá de La Coronada”, declared a festival of regional tourist interest.

Its current director is Mr. Manuel Durán Morales.

This group took part in the 39th edition of the Festisierra, which was broadcasted online and marked by Covid-19.
