CANTOS DE RAÍZ is an artistic and musical project centred on the search for essential, artisanal sounds. Its core influences are traditional folk songs and singer-songwriter music.

Pedro Sánchez Expósito

A musician from Frexna. As a teenager, he learnt to play the lute with the Extremaduran folk group ‘Los Jateros’ (of which he is still an active member today) and developed an interest in various percussion instruments.
In his ongoing quest to fuse musical genres and driven by his interest in progressive rock, he also regularly collaborates with classical ensembles, such as the Amadeus Choir.

María Vargas Nogales

She currently resides in the medieval town of Sermoneta (Italy). During her experimental period in Seville, she won awards and had her work published through the Cultural Promotion Fund of the University and Seville City Council.
Today she combines her role as a teacher with her musical career. She has performed and received accolades in Rome, Latina, Naples and Piedmont, and has collaborated musically with Canal Extremadura on the documentary “La voz del terruño”, a tribute to the Extremaduran poet Luis Chamizo.

Atilio Roberto Álvarez Gutiérrez

An Argentine based in Extremadura with extensive musical experience. He is currently Director of the Municipal Music Schools in Segura de León and Fuentes de León.
He has performed with numerous ensembles, ranging from traditional Argentine folk music to modern music groups. He is a professional pianist and multi-instrumentalist.

Raúl Cardillo Ciccione Vargas

A student at the Liceo Musical in Latina (Italy). He has won prizes at various international competitions as a guitarist. He is currently a member of the Ciudad de Sermoneta Training Orchestra, an activity he combines with his studies in choral singing, classical guitar, the transverse flute and music production
