Javier Ramírez, a native of Huelva, is a philosophy teacher who has cultivated a passion for drawing and photography since his youth. He was stationed at the Eugenio Hermoso High School in Fregenal de la Sierra during the 1988–1989 academic year, and has maintained a close, enduring bond with our town ever since.
The pieces on display for this occasion belong to a series he titles “Dibujando Fregenal” (Drawing Fregenal), a collection of digital drawings that bring us closer to various corners of the town. Utilizing a style reminiscent of comic book aesthetics and a technique that showcases a surprising simplicity of resources, Javier manages to instill an evocative expressiveness into each drawing.
Simple, winding black lines define areas of flat color without relying on shadows or textures; it is solely the gracefulness of the stroke, a limited color palette, and a love for detail that grant the architecture a unique expressiveness and vitality. To create this series, Javier works directly with a computer mouse, carefully outlining every line, whimsically distorting volumes, and precisely applying color until achieving the desired effect.
Through his drawings, Javier pays a heartfelt tribute to the architecture, prominent historical figures, and iconic corners of Fregenal—a graphic showcase that is sure to delight everyone who visits.
