Víctor Manuel Pizarro is an independent researcher of traditional culture, a photographer, and the writer behind the blog “Ciudad Dormida” (Sleeping City). His blog specializes in travel, nature, and culture, focusing particularly on traditional architecture and folk festivals across Spain and Portugal. He has traveled extensively throughout the Iberian Peninsula, capturing the beauty of traditional celebrations and the ritualistic use of masks. Recently, his work has shifted toward the ethno-photographic documentation of African tribes, focusing on those whose cultures remain least altered by outside influences. This pursuit has taken him deep into remote territories within Ethiopia, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, and the jungles of the Ivory Coast. He is a member of the Photographic Association of Extremadura (AFE), the Extremadura Collective of Nature Photographers (CEFNA), the PhotoClick cultural association, and the Royal Society of Ethno Travellers, an organization dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of the world’s last remaining tribes.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: While modern society is highly aware of the loss of ecosystems and animal species, the same cannot always be said for global cultures. The phenomenon of globalization directly threatens worldwide cultural diversity, leaving thousands of cultural groups on the brink of extinction today. Nevertheless, a few tribes have successfully maintained their unique, traditional ways of life—acting as “islands of cultural resistance” made up of minority societies that, despite being surrounded by rapid change, refuse to succumb.
